    Marine Mechanic in Brisbane

Inboard marine diesel servicing, diagnosis and cooling system work, based at Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron in Manly.

    Who we are

Seadog Marine is a Manly-based marine diesel workshop serving boat owners around Brisbane and South East Queensland. The business has been operating since 2004 and works on inboard marine diesel engines, with a focus on practical maintenance, fault-finding and cooling systems. The workshop is at Shed 3, Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron, 578 Royal Esplanade, Manly QLD 4179.

Marine engine problems can affect more than one component, so useful diagnosis starts with the symptoms, operating conditions and service history. We ask what the engine is doing, when it happens and what has already been checked. That context helps us discuss the next steps for the actual vessel rather than assume one repair suits every engine.

    Marine mechanic services

Seadog Marine provides several kinds of inboard diesel service. Follow the links for details about each service and the work involved:

    Engines we work on

The workshop works on inboard marine diesels including Cummins, Yanmar, Perkins, Volvo Penta, Kubota and CAT, as well as other makes already represented in our service work. Engine designs and service requirements vary by model; tell us the make, model and engine hours when you enquire so we can understand what you have on board.

If you are unsure of the exact model, a clear photograph of the engine identification plate can help. For a running issue, include the warning lights or alarms, temperature behaviour, smoke, water discharge and recent maintenance if known. No single symptom confirms a fault by itself, but good details help make the first conversation useful.

    Where we work

Seadog Marine is based at RQYS in Manly and comes to your boat for service work where access and the job allow. Marina access, vessel location and the work required affect what can be carried out on site, so contact us to discuss arrangements before booking.

Service areas include Manly, Wynnum, Cleveland, Raby Bay, Redland Bay, Scarborough, Newport, Moreton Bay, Gold Coast, Lytton, Hemmant. We attend Rivergate, The Yard, Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron (RQYS), East Coast Marina (ECM), Moreton Bay Trailer Boat Club (MBTBC), Wynnum Manly Yacht Club, Gold Coast City Marina (GGCM), Boat Works and Southport Yacht Club, as well as locations in between. If your boat is outside these locations, ask us about the vessel's location and access.

    Why choose Seadog Marine

Cooling systems are a particular area of Seadog Marine's workshop work. Overheating can relate to flow, restrictions, leaks or more than one part of the circuit, so diagnosis considers the system rather than assuming the first visible component is the cause. Work includes raw water pumps, heat exchangers, aftercoolers and related cooling circuits.

You can see examples of completed work in the Seadog Marine gallery, including pump rebuilds, heat exchanger repairs and Cummins aftercooler work. These are examples of workshop jobs, not a promise that every engine needs the same repair. We discuss findings and the work appropriate to the component and its condition.

    Marine mechanic FAQs

How often should I service my inboard marine diesel?

Follow the service intervals in your engine manufacturer's manual, including both operating-hour and time-based intervals. Usage, long periods sitting idle and the engine's service history all matter. Tell us your engine model, hours and last service date so we can discuss the maintenance it needs rather than apply a single interval to every boat.

What are the signs of an overheating marine engine?

Warning signs include a rising temperature gauge, a temperature alarm, steam, reduced exhaust water flow or coolant loss. These symptoms can have several causes, including raw water pump problems, restrictions or heat exchanger issues. Do not keep running an overheating engine to see whether it improves; follow the engine manufacturer's shutdown guidance and arrange fault-finding.

Do you carry out pre-purchase inspections?

Yes. Seadog Marine provides pre-purchase inspections for inboard marine diesel engines. Contact us with the vessel location, engine make and model, and any available service records to discuss the scope. An engine inspection helps you understand its condition and maintenance needs; it is not a guarantee against future faults or a replacement for a full vessel survey.
