    The service

Good cooling work starts with finding the real cause.

Clear findings and practical options, grounded in the condition of your component and the wider system.

An aftercooler cools the intake air after it has been compressed by the turbocharger. Its role is different from the engine's main heat exchanger, but it is another important part of the marine diesel cooling system. Fouling, corrosion and failed seals need careful inspection.

We assess core condition, air-side contamination, salt deposits, sealing faces, fasteners and connections. Cleaning and pressure testing help establish whether a service, repair or rebuild is appropriate for the component's condition.

Our documented Cummins QSB projects include a full aftercooler strip, clean, inspection and reassembly, and a QSB 5.9 aftercooler rebuild with a newly manufactured core. We serve Brisbane, Moreton Bay and South East Queensland; send your engine model and symptoms to discuss the work needed.

    Workshop scope

    Work included

    • Aftercooler core inspection and cleaning
    • Air-side contamination and restriction checks
    • Corrosion and salt build-up assessment
    • Seals, O-rings and gasket-face inspection
    • Pressure testing and leak-point assessment
    • Reassembly checks and rebuild advice

    What to look out for

    Common symptoms

These signs can point to a cooling fault. Inspection helps identify the cause.

    • Loss of engine power
    • Cooling performance concerns
    • Corrosion or weeping around the component
    • Higher exhaust gas temperature where monitored

    Straight answers

    Questions vessel owners ask.

Share what you know about the engine and the problem. We can help work out the next step.

Are an aftercooler and a heat exchanger the same thing?

Both transfer heat, but an aftercooler cools the turbocharged intake air while the main engine heat exchanger cools the engine's coolant circuit. The components need different inspection and servicing attention.

Do you rebuild Cummins marine aftercoolers?

Our gallery includes Cummins QSB aftercooler rebuild work, including a QSB 5.9 unit with a newly manufactured core. Contact us with your model and component details so we can assess your specific job.

Can cleaning alone resolve an aftercooler problem?

Cleaning can address fouling, but it will not repair a damaged core, corrosion or failed seals. Inspection and testing are needed to establish the appropriate work.

What information helps with an aftercooler estimate?

Send the engine make and model, photos, service history if available and the symptoms you have noticed. Let us know the vessel's location and access arrangements.
